6 pm - 7 pm(ish)
Join us for an exciting evening of learning about the snowpack and the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES) This in-person event is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, backcountry adventurers, and anyone interested in exploring snowy terrains. Join Avalanche Savvy for a 1 hour talk about the current Snowpack in Steamboat and North West Colorado. We'll spend the first 15 min talking about the current CIAC forecast, and the next about 45 min introducing the "Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale" or A.T.E.S. in short. A.T.E.S. compliments the "Avalanche Danger Scale" you get from a CAIC forecast. It's slowly being introduced the last few years in the USA, although it originated in Canada 20 years ago. We'll go over an update to it with the latest ISSW 2023 paper. Beacon Guide Books has been producing A.T.E.S. maps and the OnX app has just released auto generated A.T.E.S. maps in December 2023 for certain zones.
This will be held at GH Steamboat in the new cozy coworking space.
Time: 18:00:00 (Mountain Daylight Time) Talk Location: Gravity Haus, 2304 Apres Ski Way, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487
